Cape May Light Cape May Light
Cape May Point, New Jersey

This photo was taken long before I ever dreamed I'd be photographing lighthouses.  The majestic Cape May Light stands exactly 157½ feet tall and shines its automated beacon out over the Atlantic from the southern tip of New Jersey.  It was constructed in 1859, replacing a smaller tower built in 1824.

The lighthouse resides in Cape May Point State Park.  This a very well-maintained area that includes a beach and nature trails.  There is a small admission fee to climb to the top.  I didn't go up, but I'll be going back to do so and to come back with better photos of this lovely lighthouse !  Also nearby is the town of Cape May itself, a wonderful place filled with Victorian homes, Bed & Breakfast Inns, restaurants, and shops.  You can reach Cape May either from the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey or from Delaware via the Cape May-Lewes Ferry.
