Cedar Point Lighthouse (Cupola) Patuxent, Maryland The Cedar Point Lighthouse once marked the southern point of the confluence of the Chespeake Bay and the Patuxent River. It was constructed in 1896 and abandoned by the Coast Guard in 1926. Efforts were made to save the lighthouse from eventual deterioration, but the cupola was all that could be saved. A photo of the light in its heyday appears below. The lantern room stood 50 feet in elevation, perched atop a three story brick and frame building. Note: This light has been hosted in the past by Patuxent Air Museum This museum has one of the finest displays I've seen of modern Naval aircraft. However, the museum has been closed due to major road construction in the area. I will be posting the location of the new museum when it is known. |
