Lightship Chesapeake Baltimore, Maryland Officially known as vessel WLV-116, the Chesapeake amassed 55 years of service before becoming part of the Baltimore Maritime Museum. She guarded the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay for most of this time, but also served as a harbor patrol boat during World War II. She is 133 feet long and carried a 1000-watt lamp at her masthead. The Chesapeake is now a National Historical Landmark and is located at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. For a small fee, you can tour this boat and the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse, along with the submarine Torsk and the U. S. Coast Guard cutter Taney. They are all part of the Baltimore Maritime Museum. Also located nearby is the frigate USS Constellation and the National Aquarium. |
