Fenwick Island Light Fenwick Island, Delaware
Located not far from my home, this lighthouse has many interesting features. Fenwick Island is located at the very southern tip of Delaware, near the borderline between Maryland and Delaware. In fact, the famed Mason-Dixon runs right through the lighthouse grounds. This light was constructed in 1858 and contains a third-order Fresnel lens. The tower is eighty-seven feet tall. It emits a beacon into the Delaware Bay visible for about fifteen miles. After passing Assateague, this is the last light seen by passing vessels before passing Cape May. Fenwick Light is open to the public. The keeper's home is now a private residence. Nearby Ocean City resort is a popular vacation spot for residents of Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. |
