Alexandria, VA

Built in 1855, the Jones Point Lighthouse is the nation's oldest standing inland lighthouse.  Geographically it is located just a few feet from the southwest corner of the original 10-mile square of land that became Washington, D.C.

Jones Point was deactivated in 1926 and fell into disrepair.  However, it was restored in 1995 and is still an active aid to navigation for vessels traveling up the Potomac River. Alexandria is a wonderfully historic town and just a few miles down the road you can visit Mount Vernon, George Washington's home.
