Mispillion Lighthouse (Inactive) Milford, Delaware I include this light in my collection even though it is inactive. It is sad to see such a wonderfully historic structure in such decline, but there are many lights across the country in this condition. This light is located at the mouth of the Mispillion River where it empties into the Delaware Bay. It once guided small vessels in and out of this small harbor, but has now been replaced by a small beacon tower nearby. The lighthouse was constructed in 1873 and inactivated in 1929. It's lantern room once housed a 6th order Fresnel lens, standing 65 feet tall. A citizens group was recently formed in hopes of saving Mispillion. The group can be reached at P.O. Box 148, Milford, DE 19963, or by e-mail at rcbeach@wildmail.com |
