Piney Point Lighthouse Piney Point, Maryland Sometimes known as the "lighthouse of the presidents", this light is located in an area that served as a summer retreat for several U.S. presidents, including James Madison. It was built in 1836 by John Donahoo for approximately $5,000. It is similar in construction to Concord Point Light. This light guided vessels traveling between Washington, DC and the open waters of the Chesapeake Bay until it was deactivated by the Coast Guard in 1964. It stands 35 feet tall. The separate keeper's quarters and museum make this an excellent light to visit.
