Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse Lewes, Delaware This cassion-style lighthouse, along with its sister light, the Delaware Breakwater Light, marks the National Harbor of Refuge at Cape Henlopen, Delaware. This harbor was constructed by the government to offer a place for vessels to flee the fierce Atlantic storms. The cast iron tower is 76 feet tall and is outfitted with an airport style
beacon. The tower was completed in 1926. It can be seen from the shores of
Cape Henlopen State Park. |
